Improvements for News on the web

Gav Richards Wednesday, October 25th, 2023

We hear lots of feedback about how news articles are displayed on our websites and mobile apps, and how customers would like more options to get things looking just how they'd like.

We've picked some of the most popular requests and put together a small package of improvements, which are available for you now.

Article image

If you're using high quality images for your news articles, you might want to show them as big as they can be.

You can now choose between showing the image full width or to the side.

You'll find this option in the Settings page of the News section, or you can change it per category.

Mid-article ad

Further monitise your content by including an ad within your articles.

You can choose after how many paragraphs to insert it. So if you want it to appear just after the "abstract", choose after one paragraph.

This option is also on the Settings page. Once it's enabled, you can assign your ads to the newly created "Mid-article" position. It works with third-party ad providers like Google, too.

Content after a story

You can now add custom content that will appear at the bottom of articles, just after the social sharing buttons.

You might want to promote where to follow you on social media, your newsletter, or embed third party advertising code for example.

If you do this, you may also want to disable the "More from..." section that we provide which lists other articles in the same category.

You can set up both of these things on the Settings page, or they can be set per category.

Index page changes

You can now change how many articles appear per row on a desktop display, and whether or not to show the abstract.

These options can be set per category, per station or site.

Head to the Categories section of News, select a category, then "Add or remove from stations", choose a station, and you'll see the new options.

The article image, mid-article ad, and custom content at the bottom, all apply to the version of articles that appear within our mobile apps too.

We hope you find these new features useful. If you have any feedback or ideas for other improvements for our services, please let us know. Simply email: support@aiir.com
